The allegations made against the current leadership of the Matar may be for some pure political propoganda but a study of the effects that have taken place since the re-emergence of the Elders reveals a different story.
First we need to understand a bit of what took place. The Minmatar Republic was in shambles, the government was failing at all attempts and was moving steadily into making the Republic a puppet state of the Federation. In fact I would go so far as to say that this was already to a limited extent in existence. The Republic as it was orginally designed had failed.
The reasons for this failure are many but in the end can be traced to a simple reason, the Matar are not the Gallente. To much effort was made to make a Matar government that was in some ways a copy of the Gallente Federation. This was doomed to failured based mostly on the social and cultural difference that the Matar present.
With the return of the Elders the perfect opportunity was presented to try and form a TRUE Matar government. With the backing of the Elders, Sanmatar Maleatu Shakor stepped forward and took the reigns of this opportunity. He immediatley was able to bring the Thukker onboard for some new initatives and the promise of a new government looked bright.
That bright future has faded into a black hole of stagnation. After an initial boom of confidence the situtation in Matar space has fallen back to the same dismal levels as before. Food supplies are at potential risk, land disputes exist as newly freed slaves seek to come home. Corporations that had originally looked at moving into the "new" Matar have now begun to rethink this position as they see no real infrastructure coming into place.
Now anyone that understands sociology and cultural sciences understands that the formation of a new government can be a slow progress. However Shakor has a near perfect strom handed to him. The Matar where BEGGING for a truly new goverment and he had a historic opportunity to impliment one on a fairly quick basis.
However a look at the current situtation shows not slow progress but rather no progress. No call for delegates, no effort to bring the exiting parlament in to work on a new structure. In fact even the day to day operations of the Matar are now limited to the LEAST possible efforts. In essence instead of leadership we have a power vaccum.
The Matar government does not stand today in political stasis but rather at the event horizion of a political singularity. The government orbits this black hole at the edge flirting with falling to deep in to ever get out. If the Matar are to avoid the complete collapse of their potential nation they must act now. Not speak of change but act on it.
If they fail to act, and promptly the potential for the complete collapse of their nation will be realized. It will not come qucikly, nor will it come painlessly. The collapse would be a long drawn out affair full of civil war and unrest and would result in the eventual absorbtion of the Matar into the other major nations, most promently the conquest by the Amarr.

The responses here have been interesting to say the least. I think a careful examination of the current Matar society shows part of the issue they face. There is currently a HUGE rift between the haves and have nots. The have nots are struggling to get land, find their place and even to some extent find food. The haves, pod pilots and most of the government it seems, are so enraptured with the concept of seeking revenge and retribution upon the Amarr that they are in effecting being more abusive to their own people than the Amarr where.
The Matar leaderships needs to become active and take a stand. They are letting the events of history wash over them like a wave and are being carried with no clear direction or guidance. This matter is made even worse when you realize that if the current leadership got it's way it would lead to a bigger mess for the Matar.
Lets say for a moment that the Matar forces are able to defeat the Amarr and forever free their people in their entirity. The catastrophy that would follow would be of "biblical" proporations. The Matar leadership would no longer have the single binding force they currently use, ie a boogie man in the Amarr, to bind the people. This would lead to a fragmentation of their society. Additionally the Matar society already has enough trouble feed, caring and governing the poeople they have now, what would they do if their population jumped say 30% over night? The economic ruin of the Matar would have reprocussions felt in EVER society.
The Matar need a shift of focus, I am not saying abandon their people to slavery. I am saying that they cannot free their people until they have achieved a certain level of critical mass as it where withing the stabilization of their own society.
The current Matar government is at this moment waging war for the sake of war. If they ever achieved victory it would be worse than any defeat for them. The current government cannot handle what a victory would hold by any stretch of the imagination. If they truly want victory they must first fix the internal issues and form a stable goverment to provide a way to deal with the after effects of the victory they seek. To do otherwise means that even in vicotry they will be defeated if not destroyed.

Originally by: Arkady Sadik "Stasis" and "inactivity" was just what Midular was accused of in her time as prime minister. It was just as wrong then as it is now. Watching things unfold after you set them in motion is not stasis. Thinking before acting is not inactivity.
I appreciate your position but what is happening now is not watching things unfold since he has really set nothing moving forward. The only thing unfolding right now is the fabirc of Matar society as it comes apart from lack of leadership.
In the case of Midular, she was actually in my opinion a better leader for the Matar. While her direct was wrong as was proven by the failure of her government, she at least did attempt to move the Matar in a direction. Her failure was attempting to duplicate what had worked for others and not working to develop a truely original government based on Matar society.
Quote: But it's useless to discuss this issue here. The only thing it leads to is the various groups repeating their old dogmas over and over again, looking for more sheep to flock to their herds.
It is never useless to invite discourse on a matter, this discourse might very well lead to nothing or could lead to a revelation for someone reading it. The arguement of the old dogmas are sadly true, just as this repsonse from you is the same old dogma as well. While I would personally perfer a real discussion of this topic, I learn as much from the dogma.
As a student of cultural development, even the dogma goes to show a great deal about the cultures represented. For example the "a" typical reponse you made of how this conversation changes nothing and is just a chance for repetition shows me that culturally your people grow weary of the talk and crave some real action to remedy the situation. It shows a despair and general feeling of hopelessness and would rather not discuss thing since you feel the status quo cannot be changed.
This is a typical responce from "freedom fighters" of the Matar and can easily found throughout Galnet posts. THIS is one of the issues facing the Matar, as a society this feeling of helplessness has invaded every level. Hate can be a powerful motivator but sooner or later it burns out and then there is nothing left. The use of hate as a binding force for the Matar is beginning to burn out, the people demand and desperately want more.
The simple truth is many Matat and even Amarr grow tired to the ceasless conflict and want a change. They want their efforts used to build something rather than tear something down. For the Amarr the Empress has begun some moves in that direction. They may be hard to see but the moves are there none the less. For the Matar the HOPE had been that the Elders would bring about those kinds of movements within the society, the truth is the society has been unmoved.
This is not a fault of the Matar people or a weakness as many Amarr would claim, it is rather the result of poor leadership in the current government.

First let me say the recent announcement and official call for Tribal Leaders to sit down is a very positive step. With any luck this could mean the beginning of the formation of a government that will properly reflect the Matar society.
Concern the comments of Starsparrow, I find it very offensive that I am judged on the make up of my DNA and not on my actions. If you wish to debate my observations then feel free, if you must resort to personal attacks please turn off your comms systems and move along.

Originally by: Sophie Starsparrow Mister Creeslar, you were referred to as Gallente. I explained why I judged you. In case you missed it :
Originally by: Sophie Starsparrow I see little merit in reading your opinions on other races when you have shown yourself to be self-obsessed and prone to ignoring fact. If your 'study's' are based on your personal observations, rather than fact, you should stop masquerading as a scientist. You are an opinionist.
I'm still waiting for a response from you on that one.
I am curious what "fact" you think I ignored? As for self obsessed, not sure I see that on either. Also when it comes to cultural studies you might wasnt to understand that it is usually opinion based since specific quantification as in other science is not truly possible. I masquerade as nothing, I am what I am, an observer. I study what people do, examine the history behind it and then show what I find. If you wish to ignore my work please feel free, you will not hurt my feelings in so doing. If you wish to dispute my work and present facts for an intellectual debate, I would welcome it. I am after all only human and not above making mistakes and through true debate many times new ideas can develope. But if the entire basis of your arguments with me have to do with my genetic makeup and your opinions of my opinions then I will happliy ignore you.

Originally by: Sophie Starsparrow Pilot Creesler, I am curious what your facts even are. I said as much and I asked you to present them. Instead, you chose to accuse me of being a racist. How scientific. How quantitative. How can I possibly debate you on your points when your points are not based on fact? When you refuse to present your facts when asked? When you continue to ignore fact? What point would there be?
I explained exactly what I am judging you on, and you again, accuse me of racism. What a stellar intellect you are.
This is truly fascinating, you accuse me of not using facts, I ask where I did this and you counter by saying my points are not based on facts and you question my intellect. Now worries however, as you have made my point for me and your posts will now be ignored.

I completely agree, this is truly exciting news. It is wonderful to see such a surge forward in forging a new Matar government after so much time of no apparent movement. This is truly exciting times for the Matar people, enjoy it and embrace it. Edouard Creeslar Director of Cultural Studies Placid Institute of Cultural Studies |
